ABOUT US

Shepherds Care for

the flock, but who

cares for the

shepherds? We do.

My name is Arthur Gonçalves, and I serve as the founding pastor of Restoration Church of Sanford in Sanford, Florida, which we planted in 2022. I also serve as the regional chapter leader for The Gospel Coalition Orlando and founded Shepherd’s Care Ministry, which helps churches train and care for pastors so they may flourish and finish well in ministry. I have served in pastoral ministry for over fifteen years, particularly in the work of church planting and church revitalization. My wife, Jessica, and I have four children.

More about our story...

Over the years, the Lord has placed a deep and growing burden on my heart for pastors. Early in my ministry, I witnessed the weight that shepherds often carry in silence. I still remember my first lead pastor calling me on a Saturday afternoon and saying, “I’m done.” Since then, I have watched close friends in ministry burn out, compromise their integrity, or drift theologically, not because they stopped loving Christ, but because they were weary, isolated, and unsupported.

These experiences have not caused me to doubt God’s plan for the church. On the contrary, they have strengthened my conviction that the church is God’s Plan A for the world, and that healthy churches require healthy pastors. You cannot have flourishing congregations without godly, spiritually healthy shepherds who are leading their homes well and watching closely over both their lives and their doctrine (1 Timothy 4:16).

By God’s providence, I am relational by nature, and over the years the Lord has graciously allowed me to walk closely with pastors in moments of weariness, restoration, and renewal. I have had the privilege of seeing broken men restored, tired men refreshed, and discouraged men strengthened to continue faithfully in ministry. There is little that excites me more than seeing shepherds renewed in the gospel and sent back into ministry with joy, clarity, and endurance.

Out of that burden and joy, Shepherds Care was born.

Shepherds Care exists to care for pastors and their families through gospel-centered rest, fellowship, and renewal. We believe that caring for shepherds is not a luxury but a biblical necessity. Our ministry seeks to provide spaces and relationships where pastors can rest in the Lord, cultivate meaningful spiritual friendships, and be strengthened for faithful ministry.

We are grateful to partner with The Gospel Coalition through local and regional Shepherds Gatherings, quarterly gatherings of like-minded pastors who come together to connect pastorally, cultivate healthy doctrine and orthopraxis, and build genuine friendships in ministry. Three of these gatherings each year are designed primarily for pastoral connection and encouragement.

The fourth gathering each year is a larger men’s workshop, where pastors, residents, and men from their churches gather together. These workshops aim not only to strengthen individual churches but also to model unity in the body of Christ—demonstrating to our communities that we belong to Jesus by the way we love one another. Our prayer is to cultivate healthy, fully devoted followers of Christ who serve faithfully in their homes, churches, and communities.

In addition, Shepherds Care partners with Practical Shepherding, led by Brian Croft, whose long-standing ministry focuses on helping pastors thrive rather than merely survive. Practical Shepherding has been a tremendous blessing to our church through the Practically Trained Pastors curriculum, which we have used repeatedly to help raise up healthy pastors and elders. Their work aligns closely with our heart and mission, and we commend their resources to pastors and churches.

Through the generosity of ministry partners and donors who share this burden, Shepherds Care is able to provide locations and resources for pastors and their families to receive care in different seasons, whether preventative care before burnout, restorative care in the midst of hardship, or redemptive care after seasons of deep pain or loss. We continue to pray for and pursue additional partners who desire to invest in the long-term health of pastors and the church.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. Whether you are a pastor in need of care, or a partner who desires to strengthen Christ’s church by caring for those who serve it, we are grateful you are here. We would love to hear from you, walk alongside you, and invite you to partner with Shepherds Care, through prayer, giving, or providing spaces of rest for weary shepherds.

When shepherds are cared for, the church is strengthened, and Christ is glorified.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

Shepherds Care joyfully adheres to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, the Baptist Faith and Message (2000), the Apostles’ Creed, and the Nicene Creed as faithful summaries of historic, orthodox Christianity.

Our primary concern is unity around first-tier doctrines—the essential truths of the Christian faith that define the gospel and the glory of Christ.

We exist to see the gospel flourish in both preaching and culture for the glory of God and the good of His church.
